CIOs Are Not Business Leaders

A quick reference here to Rajan Chandras’ article:CIOs Are Not Business Leaders originally posted in the Intelligent Enterprise e-magazine. Certainly an eye-catching contrarian title if there’s ever one from my perspective, but reading further, it states some truisms regarding the “IT manager’s job”. It seems to me, however, based on his points, I would have arrived at a different conclustion.

For sharing.

Pursuit of Excellence

Taken from the Aug 10 New York Times The Boss column , Alex Kummant says,

Part of life in heavy industry involves a certain dogged persistence in pursuing incremental improvements. I contrast that with the Silicon Valley executives who say you need to have big goals and challenge the organization. I don’t disagree with that, but when you grow up in manufacturing or transportation, the incremental improvements you make every day are what create robust change in the end.

I love this, captured here is the essence of excellence. Not just in business, but in everything we do, should be to continuously seek improvements. Why be mediocre? Hard work and discipline. Just do it.
